What it offers
AusCarSales is a free Australian car classifieds site — free for private sellers and dealers alike, with no premium placements and no listing duration limits. The pitch is explicitly anti-fee: "no listing fees, no premium upgrades", "keep more of your money". Listing is a simple four-step self-serve flow and buyers contact you directly.
It also deliberately courts the hard cases: dedicated guides for selling unregistered, damaged and unroadworthy cars — segments where the big platforms’ buyers are scarce and where a free listing genuinely beats a $150 ad on a $2,000 car.
The honest caveats
Scale and track record. The site publishes no traffic or listing-volume figures, has effectively one independent review to its name, and openly concedes it may not match the majors’ volume. There’s no payment protection, no verification, no valuation tooling — it’s a noticeboard, in the original Gumtree sense. And with no visible revenue model on the seller side, longevity is an open question fair-minded sellers should note.
