Buying a car

  • Search & browse — use the browse page filters (make, price, body type) or the plain-English search on the home page.
  • Enquire — open a listing and send an enquiry; the seller replies via on-platform messages and you’ll get an email notification.
  • Save cars & searches — sign in to save listings and searches from your dashboard.

Before you buy — checks every Australian buyer should do

  • Run a PPSR check (ppsr.gov.au, ~$2) to confirm the car isn’t stolen, written off, or under finance.
  • Verify the VIN and registration against the seller’s papers and your state’s rego-check website.
  • Get an independent pre-purchase inspection (e.g. through your state motoring club — RACV, NRMA, RACQ, etc.).
  • Check roadworthy / safety certificate requirements for your state — rules differ (e.g. RWC in VIC, safety certificate in QLD, pink slip in NSW).
  • Private sales generally have no statutory warranty — inspect before you pay.

Selling a car

  • List for free — use the Sell wizard; the AI assistant helps draft your listing from a few details and photos.
  • Photo quality — upload clear photos of at least 1024×768 pixels (larger is better). Smaller images are rejected so every listing stays sharp; your photos also carry the car’s virtual number plate as a watermark.
  • Describe honestly — accurate condition, odometer, and history. Misleading listings breach the Australian Consumer Law and our terms.
  • Respond to enquiries — buyer enquiries arrive in your messages and by email.
  • Paperwork — you’re responsible for transfer of registration and any roadworthy/safety certificate your state requires.

Staying safe

  • Meet in daylight in a public place; bring a friend for inspections and test drives.
  • Sight the buyer’s licence before a test drive.
  • Prefer bank transfer completed and cleared (or cash) before handing over the car and keys — never accept overpayment-and-refund arrangements.
  • Ignore requests to move the conversation off-platform to pay via gift cards, escrow sites you’ve never heard of, or shipping agents — these are common scams (see scamwatch.gov.au).
  • Report suspicious listings or messages to us.

Using an AI assistant

MotorLoop can be connected to an AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and others) so it can search cars and, if you let it, manage your own listings. Each storefront has its own connection address, shown on its Connect your AI page.

  • Searching is open to anyone— no account or sign-in needed. Ask something like “find me a diesel ute under $40,000 with less than 100,000 km”.
  • Managing your listings needs an API token.Create one from your profile, tick “Manage my listings”, and paste it into your assistant. The token is shown once, and you can revoke it at any time.
  • A token can never do more than you can. Its scopes narrow your own permissions; they never add any.
  • Nothing goes live by itself. Anything an assistant creates is saved as a draft — you publish it yourself.
  • Bulk import.Dealers can hand an assistant a spreadsheet and have it create up to 25 listings per batch. If any row is wrong, nothing at all is created and you’re told what to fix, so you can safely try it first.
  • Assistants can’t upload photos or publish for you — add photos in the sell editor and publish when you’re happy.
