Blackwater cars for sale

About these listings

Every Blackwater listed on MotorLoop.

Overview

Blackwater designed and built the Grizzly, a 22-tonne armoured infantry mobility vehicle intended for urban operations and secure transport in high-threat areas. It is a military and security vehicle rather than a road car, and that is the first thing to understand about the badge.

Its defining feature is a diamond hull — a V-shaped underbody with sloped walls, layered steel plate, air gaps and composites — designed to deflect blast from roadside and under-belly attacks.

History

The vehicle was developed to meet the company’s own requirement for protected transport. It was not selected by the United States Army in 2008, and with limited prospects outside the US military the company scaled back the plant, converting hangar space previously used for Grizzly assembly into an aviation maintenance and repair facility.

The Grizzly is now built by Blackwater Armored Vehicle, a division of Academi, at a factory in Camden, North Carolina.

Buying one in Australia

Armoured vehicles are not ordinary imports. Expect import approval, compliance and — depending on specification and state — additional restrictions on what may be brought in and registered at all. Take advice before committing to a purchase.

Mass is the practical issue: at over 20 tonnes, licensing, insurance, tyres and even the roads and bridges you can legally use are all different questions from those a car faces.
