Overview

The Consulier GTP was an American sports car built on a single premise — that weight is the enemy — and it was fast enough that race organisers wrote rules to keep it out.

History

Warren Mosler founded Consulier Industries in 1985 and built the GTP: a mid-engined car weighing about 2,200 lb with a 190-horsepower turbocharged Chrysler engine, which was more than enough given how little there was to move. The automotive division spun off as Mosler Automotive in 1993, and the GTP’s successors — the Intruder and Raptor — went on winning until they were excluded. See the Mosler entry for the rest.
