Overview
Dongfeng is one of China’s "Big Four" state-owned carmakers, best known internationally as the joint-venture partner behind Chinese-market Nissans, Hondas and Peugeots. Its own brands — Voyah for electric vehicles, M-Hero for luxury off-roaders, plus Aeolus and Forthing — are newer and increasingly aimed at export.
History
Founded in 1969 as the Second Automobile Works at Shiyan in Hubei province, under the control of the state asset commission SASAC. Joint ventures define its scale: the PSA partnership dates to 1992, and both Dongfeng Honda and Dongfeng Motor Co. (with Nissan) were established in 2003. The group produced 3.06 million vehicles in 2011, second in China by volume at the time.
