Overview

Eagle was a brand Chrysler created because it had to. Franchise laws meant the American Motors dealers it inherited in 1987 could not simply be handed Chrysler products, so a new marque was invented to give them something to sell. It never developed an identity, and buyers never worked out what an Eagle was supposed to be.

History

Created following Chrysler’s 1987 acquisition of AMC. The Premier (1988–92) was a Renault-developed sedan whose platform went on to underpin Chrysler’s successful LH-series cars from 1993. The Talon (1990–98), a rebadged Mitsubishi Eclipse built at the Diamond-Star joint venture plant, was by far the best-liked of them, selling over 200,000 across two generations. The Vision (1993–97) accounted for another 115,699.

Chrysler announced the brand’s discontinuation in September 1997, and the last Talon was built in 1998. A planned second-generation Vision became the Chrysler 300M instead.
