Overview
Equus Automotive builds the Bass 770, a modern car styled as an American muscle car of the late 1960s — a Mustang fastback silhouette with a Camaro-influenced rear and a front that nods to the Plymouth GTX. It is a new vehicle rather than a restoration or a rebody, with an all-aluminium chassis and body.
Performance is genuinely modern. The car uses the supercharged 6.2-litre LS9 from the Corvette ZR1 at around 640 horsepower, quoted at 3.4 seconds to 60 mph and a 200 mph top speed. Prices ran from roughly 250,000 to 290,000 US dollars, so these are very low-volume cars wherever they appear.
History
The company was founded in 2008 and is based in Detroit. The car takes its name from the founder, Bassam Abdallah — Bass 770 — and the project was pitched from the start at buyers who wanted the shape of a classic muscle car with none of the compromises of a fifty-year-old one.
Production has been measured in single figures per year, so any example on the market is effectively a one-off transaction rather than part of a trading pattern.
