Overview
Jaecoo is one of two export-only brands Chery created in 2023, pitched at buyers who want an off-road look without an off-road price. The J7 is the model most Australians will encounter.
History
Launched alongside its sister brand Omoda at a joint global debut in Wuhu, Anhui in April 2023, as part of Chery’s export strategy. The two brands are frequently sold together from the same showroom, and had passed 600,000 combined sales worldwide by August 2025.
In Australia
Customer deliveries of the J7 began in the first week of May 2025 through 30 to 40 Omoda Jaecoo dealers — a standalone network Chery Australia built rather than folding the brand into its existing showrooms. The J7 SHS plug-in hybrid launched in a single range-topping Summit trim, priced against the BYD Sealion 6, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and GWM Haval H6 GT PHEV. A larger J8 has been signalled to follow.
The warranty is the sharpest part of the offer: eight years and unlimited kilometres, with eight years of capped-price servicing and up to eight years of roadside assistance.
Buying a used Jaecoo
Almost nothing here is more than a year or two old, so you are effectively buying a nearly-new car with most of its eight-year warranty intact — check the remaining term and that servicing has been done at the specified intervals, because that cover is the bulk of the value.
Underneath, the J7 uses Chery’s T1X platform, shared with the Omoda 5 and the Tiggo 7 and 8 Pro. That is reassuring for parts and servicing: the mechanical hardware is not unique to a brand that is two years old in this market.
