Overview
Kandi is a Chinese maker of small electric vehicles, go-karts and golf carts, listed on Nasdaq. Its most interesting contribution was an early car-sharing scheme rather than any particular vehicle.
History
Founded in 2002 at Jinhua in Zhejiang by Hu Xiaoming. It agreed in 2012 to supply 20,000 electric vehicles to Hangzhou for leasing, and in 2013 launched Kandi EV Car Share there — including an automated "car vending machine" tower that stored and dispensed vehicles. A joint venture with Geely’s Shanghai Maple subsidiary followed in 2013 with a billion yuan of registered capital.
US sales began in Dallas–Fort Worth in 2020 with the K27 and K23. In November 2020 the short-seller Hindenburg Research alleged the company had faked at least 55 per cent of its sales; Kandi disputed the findings.
