Overview
Karma Automotive builds low-volume luxury plug-in hybrids from Southern California. It exists because the assets of Henrik Fisker’s first company had to go somewhere, and the cars remain recognisably descended from the striking 2011 Fisker Karma.
History
China’s Wanxiang Group bought Fisker Automotive out of bankruptcy for $149.2 million in 2014, acquiring the designs, the plug-in hybrid powertrain technology and a Delaware factory. The business was renamed Karma Automotive, headquartered in Irvine with assembly at Moreno Valley, California.
The Revero launched in 2016, followed by the Revero GT and the 536-horsepower GS-6. A planned all-electric GSe-6 was cancelled in 2023. The company secured $100 million in July 2020 to license its EV platform to other manufacturers, a business line it now pursues alongside its own cars.
