Overview
Koenigsegg is a Swedish hypercar maker distinguished by how much of each car it makes itself. Engines, transmissions, carbon structures and even valve actuation are developed in-house — a degree of vertical integration that would be unusual at ten times its volume. Roughly 743 cars have been built in total.
History
Christian von Koenigsegg founded the company in 1994 at the age of 22; it is based at Ängelholm in Skåne, on a former air force base. The CC8S became the first street-legal production car in 2002, followed by the CCX in 2006 and the Agera in 2010, which took BBC Top Gear’s Hypercar of the Year.
The records are the headline. An Agera RS averaged 447 km/h over two runs in 2017, and a Regera set a 0–400–0 km/h time of 28.81 seconds in 2023. The Jesko was shown in 2019, the four-seat Gemera in 2020. The company employed around 800 people by 2023 and doubled its production capacity with a new factory.
