Overview

Leapmotor builds electric and range-extender vehicles and makes most of the parts itself — motors, vehicle computers, even the lighting. That vertical integration is why its cars undercut rivals, and it is now the route by which Stellantis sells Chinese EVs in the rest of the world.

History

Founded in December 2015 by Fu Liquan and Zhu Jiangming, who had previously co-founded the surveillance company Dahua Technology; the brand launched in March 2017. Deliveries grew from 1,000 vehicles in 2019 to 596,555 in 2025.

Stellantis acquired 20 per cent for €1.5 billion in October 2023 and set up Leapmotor International, a 51/49 joint venture that handles distribution outside China. European sales began in September 2024, with production at Stellantis plants in Poland and Spain.

In Australia

Leapmotor entered Australia in 2025 with the C10 mid-size SUV, priced from $45,888 for the Style and $49,888 for the Design, both plus on-road costs — pitched directly at the Tesla Model Y and the other Chinese electric SUVs. The C10 REEV followed: a range-extender that pairs the electric drivetrain with a petrol generator for a combined range of up to about 1,150 km, which answers the range objection without a charging stop. The smaller B10 came after it.

The Stellantis connection is the practical reassurance. Distribution runs through Leapmotor International, and the dealer network was built partly on existing Stellantis dealers — 12 outlets across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and the ACT at launch, with plans to roughly double that.

Buying a used Leapmotor

Every Leapmotor in Australia is a 2025-or-later car, so you are shopping nearly-new: check the remaining factory warranty and confirm the service history supports it.

The REEV and the pure-electric C10 are quite different propositions second-hand. The REEV has an engine to maintain but no charging dependency; the battery-electric car has neither. Decide which problem you would rather own before comparing prices, because the badge is the same.
