Overview
The mycar is a two-seat electric city car developed in Hong Kong — the first vehicle designed there to meet European standards in full, and the first home-grown Hong Kong vehicle to reach international markets. The body was styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro, which is an unusual pedigree for a car of this size and price.
It is a genuine road vehicle rather than a low-speed buggy: it carries a World Manufacturer Identifier and went on sale in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Austria and Denmark.
History
The car was developed jointly by EuAuto Technology Limited and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, with the electric drive system co-developed by the university and funding from the Hong Kong government’s Innovation and Technology Commission. Testing was carried out on the Danish island of Bornholm, where the cars were charged from wind power.
GreenTech Automotive in the United States acquired EuAuto in 2010. Manufacturing ended in 2017 and GreenTech Automotive declared bankruptcy in 2018, so the mycar has had no factory support since.
Buying one in Australia
The mycar was not sold new here, so any example has been imported and needs import approval and compliance paperwork. Check those first.
With the manufacturer gone since 2018 the real question is the battery and drive system. Establish the pack’s condition and what the realistic options are for repair or replacement before you commit — on a car of this scale, that single component can exceed the value of the vehicle.
