Overview

Omoda is Chery’s style-led export brand, aimed at younger buyers and sold only outside China. In Australia it appears alongside Jaecoo, often in the same showroom.

History

Launched by Chery in 2022, with brand separation announced for Russia in June 2022 and a global debut alongside Jaecoo in Wuhu, Anhui in April 2023. It sits above the mainstream Chery badge and below the premium Exeed brand. Western European entry began in Spain in 2024, and Omoda and Jaecoo together passed 600,000 sales worldwide by August 2025.

In Australia

Omoda arrived in the second half of 2025 as Chery’s third badge here, after Chery itself and Jaecoo, sold through the same standalone Omoda Jaecoo dealer network. The C9 mid-size SUV led the range from August, with the Omoda 7 to follow.

One point of genuine confusion for used buyers: the Omoda 5 was sold in Australia as a *Chery* Omoda 5 before the Omoda brand existed here as a separate marque. A listing may therefore carry either badge for what is essentially the same car, so search both.

Buying a used Omoda

The used pool is very young and warranty is the main thing you are buying — Chery’s Australian brands have competed hard on long, unlimited-kilometre terms, and the balance transfers if the service book is in order.

Because the dealer network is new and still growing, check service coverage against your postcode before committing rather than assuming a metropolitan-style spread.
