Overview
Pagani builds perhaps a hundred cars per model generation and treats each as a piece of applied sculpture — exposed carbon weaves, milled aluminium switchgear, quad exhausts arranged as ornament. It is the smallest of the serious hypercar makers and the most obsessive.
History
Horacio Pagani, an Argentine-Italian engineer, ran Lamborghini’s composites department before founding Pagani Composite Research in 1988 — working on the Countach restyle and the Diablo — and then Pagani Automobili in 1992, based at San Cesario sul Panaro near Modena.
The Zonda C12 debuted at Geneva in 1999, the twin-turbo V12 Huayra followed in 2011, and the Utopia was unveiled on 12 September 2022 with 99 coupes planned. Every flagship uses a V12 developed with Mercedes-AMG. The company employs a few hundred people.
