Overview
Rally Sport is registered with two models that name two of the most significant rally cars ever built: the RS Cosworth and the RS200. The first is the Ford Escort RS Cosworth, a Group A homologation car; the second is the mid-engined Group B RS200, of which Ford built only enough to homologate.
Genuine examples of either are valuable and individually documented. A car under this badge is a recreation, and the gap between the two in value is very large.
Buying one in Australia
Establish the base vehicle. An Escort-derived recreation and a purpose-built mid-engined car are entirely different propositions to register, insure and maintain.
Either way the car goes through your state or territory’s individually constructed or modified vehicle process. Ask for the engineering certificate covering the car as it stands, and check the chassis number against the marque registers before assuming anything about originality.
