Vintage Rover re-manufactures Land Rover Defenders. Its two registered models, LRD110-R and LRD90-R, correspond to the long and short wheelbase Defender, with the R suffix denoting the rebuilt vehicle.
Defender re-manufacturing is a well-established international trade: the original was built for decades with little structural change, which makes a comprehensive rebuild practical in a way it would not be for most vehicles.
Buying one in Australia
Establish exactly what has been renewed. Rebuilt Defenders range from a tidied original to a vehicle with a new chassis, a modern drivetrain and a re-trimmed interior, and the price difference between those is very large.
Where the chassis has been replaced or the driveline changed, the vehicle’s registration and its engineering approval need to reflect that. Ask for the paperwork rather than the photographs.
