This is a platform comparison. General information gathered from public sources — pricing, features and policies change, so check each platform’s own site before deciding. Full note

AVATR is a Chinese premium car brand built around an unusually close combination of vehicle engineering, battery manufacturing and digital technology. Its appeal is easy to understand: distinctive styling, richly equipped interiors and a choice of electric powertrains. Understanding what you can actually buy takes more care. An AVATR advertised in China can have different batteries, software, equipment and pricing from a car carrying the same badge overseas.

The brand's own about page describes a business centred on design, intelligent technology and the ownership experience, with operations in Chongqing, Shanghai and Munich. That positioning places AVATR in the premium end of the electrified market, where the cabin and the technology experience matter alongside acceleration and range.

This guide examines the company's development, its expanding model range, its competitive strengths and the practical questions surrounding distribution and ownership. Research was completed on 9 September 2026. Prices below retain their original currencies and market context. The competitive assessment is desk research and analysis, rather than a first-hand road test.

AVATR's history: from a Changan-NIO venture to a new luxury brand

AVATR's corporate roots precede the cars now carrying its name. The company's November 2025 Hong Kong listing application records its establishment on 10 July 2018, originally with Changan Automobile and NIO each holding 50%. A 2020 capital increase and share transfer subsequently increased Changan's holding to 95.38%. These are historical ownership figures, not a description of today's shareholder register. Source: AVATR's draft corporate-history filing.

The same filing places the Changan-Huawei-CATL platform collaboration in 2020 and the official AVATR brand launch in 2021. It records the AVATR 12's commercial launch in November 2023 and the AVATR 06's launch in April 2025. The document is an application-stage draft, but provides a useful primary account of those completed milestones. Source: corporate-history filing.

The transition to manufacturing is separately documented by CATL. On 20 December 2022, it announced that production AVATR 11 and limited-edition 011 vehicles had rolled off the line, with initial customer deliveries scheduled before the end of that month. CATL identified the 11 as the first model using the jointly developed CHN architecture. Source: CATL's production announcement.

This sequence explains why AVATR can look like a newcomer while having access to substantial industrial resources. Its brand identity is young; the organisations contributing to its engineering and supply chain are established businesses. That distinction helps explain the pace of product development, although it does not establish the long-term reliability of an individual model.

By January 2026, AVATR reported more than 120,000 vehicle sales during 2025, including 10,470 in December. These are company-reported sales, and the range includes both battery-electric and range-extended vehicles. They should not be presented as a pure-electric sales total or confused with the much larger Changan group's volume. Source: AVATR's 2025 sales announcement.

Who makes AVATR, and what does Huawei actually do?

AVATR's Singapore corporate page identifies Changan as its largest shareholder and CATL as its second largest, while describing Huawei as a strategic technology partner. Their contributions are different: Changan brings vehicle development and manufacturing, CATL contributes battery technology, and Huawei supplies intelligent systems, including driver-assistance and cockpit technology. Calling AVATR simply a Huawei car obscures that structure. Source: AVATR Singapore's company profile.

The relationship with Huawei also has a capital dimension. In August 2024, AVATR announced a RMB11.5 billion investment for a 10% interest in Yinwang, Huawei's automotive technology subsidiary. Its announcement outlined intended collaboration in product definition, technology, supply and user experience. This was AVATR investing in a Huawei subsidiary; it was not an announcement that Huawei had purchased 10% of AVATR. Source: AVATR's Yinwang investment announcement.

The potential competitive benefit is coordination. Battery packaging, vehicle electronics, power delivery and software can be considered together during development. The corresponding commercial challenge is dependence: the resulting ownership experience relies on several organisations continuing to supply, support and improve their parts of the vehicle. Buyers should judge the delivered product and local support arrangements, rather than assuming that three prominent corporate names guarantee an excellent result.

Design: a recognisable identity and a premium cabin

AVATR's global design page describes a Munich team working across exterior styling, interiors, colours and materials, and digital interfaces. This matters because a premium car's identity now extends beyond bodywork. Screen placement, lighting, seat controls and the relationship between physical and digital controls all contribute to how the car feels to use.

The brand's strategy is to make that experience recognisable. AVATR's Singapore 07 page, for example, highlights its distinctive front lighting, continuous rear lighting and a cabin combining a 35.4-inch panoramic display with a 15.6-inch central screen. It also describes reclining comfort seats and camera-based mirror displays among the featured equipment. Availability should be checked against the local variant specification. Source: AVATR 07 Singapore.

There is a sensible test for this kind of luxury: try the controls you will use repeatedly. Adjust the temperature, find the demister, change a destination and check rearward visibility. A large screen can be impressive in a showroom while still requiring more attention than you want to give it in traffic. Seat comfort and the usability of digital mirrors are also personal judgements that a specification list cannot settle.

At the more exclusive end, the AVATR 012 is a collaboration with designer Kim Jones. Its official page describes a four-seat interior, bespoke personalisation and a different materials treatment. The commercial purpose is clear: such a model helps AVATR compete for attention as a luxury brand, beyond the conventional comparison of battery size and purchase price. Its desirability as a design object does not establish future collectable value. Source: AVATR 012.

The model range: 06, 06T, 07, 07L, 11 and 12

AVATR is a brand, not one particular car. Its main model families now cover saloons, SUVs and the more versatile 06T body style. For a buyer, the first decision is which shape and size suit the job, followed by powertrain and trim.

The 11 was the first production model and remains an important expression of the brand's luxury-SUV identity. The UAE specification illustrates its scale: approximately 4.88 metres long, with five seats and a 2.975-metre wheelbase. That is a substantial vehicle, so parking space and ease of access deserve attention alongside its styling. Source: AVATR 11 UAE specification.

The 12 occupies the flagship saloon or gran-coupé position. AVATR's April 2026 update introduced seven configurations across battery-electric and range-extended powertrains. The 06 sits below it in the passenger-car range, while the 06T broadens the offering towards buyers seeking more adaptable space. The manufacturer describes the 06T as a sports saloon; automotive reporting commonly describes its body style as a wagon. Sources: AVATR's April product announcement, 06T body-style reporting.

The 07 is the urban-oriented SUV. The larger 07L, launched in China on 8 August 2026, is positioned towards families wanting a roomy five-seat vehicle. Its launch announcement lists three battery-electric variants, including a three-motor version. It would therefore be inaccurate to assume that the 07L launch range automatically included the same range-extender choices as the 07. Source: AVATR 07L launch.

These differences make a showroom comparison more useful than treating model numbers as a simple ranking. Bring the child seats or bulky items you regularly carry. Check the boot opening, floor height, folded-seat arrangement and rear headroom. The more expensive or visually dramatic car may not be the one that suits your daily routine.

Battery-electric and range-extended powertrains

AVATR's range includes BEVs, which run on stored electricity, and REEVs, which combine electric drive with a petrol-powered generator. AVATR markets its range-extension technology under the Kunlun name and describes systems designed around electrical generation, energy management and battery charging. The presence of a petrol engine means a range-extended AVATR should not be described as a zero-tailpipe-emission vehicle in every operating condition. Source: AVATR range-extension technology.

A REEV can make sense for someone who wants to cover routine journeys electrically but regularly travels beyond convenient charging routes. It still rewards charging: using the generator as the default energy source is a different ownership pattern from plugging in each night. A BEV is the more straightforward proposition for someone whose charging access and typical journeys already fit electric driving.

AVATR's published Chinese 07 Elite comparison gives a concrete example of the choice:

Specification07 Elite REEV07 Elite EV
Published suggested priceRMB219,900RMB229,900
Battery capacity39.05kWh82.16kWh
DriveRear-wheel driveRear-wheel drive
Electric range, CLTC245km650km
Combined petrol-plus-electric range, CLTC1,115kmNot applicable
Claimed 0–100km/h6.6 seconds6.3 seconds
Claimed 30–80% DC charging time15 minutes10 minutes

These are manufacturer figures for the specific variants shown, not an overseas specification or a guarantee of everyday performance. Source: AVATR 07 configuration table.

The comparison also exposes a common mistake: a REEV's combined distance uses two energy stores. Comparing its 1,115km figure directly with a BEV's 650km figure as if both represented battery range would mislead a buyer.

Charging and range: reading the claims properly

Fast charging is central to AVATR's technology proposition, but the percentage window matters. A 30–80% claim covers half the battery's indicated capacity; 10–80% covers seventy percentage points. Equal charging times across those two windows do not describe equal performance. A peak power number also does not tell you the average charging rate throughout a stop.

For the updated 12, AVATR's April 2026 announcement describes a 98kWh battery-electric pack and a claimed 10-minute 30–80% charge. This is useful evidence of the manufacturer's engineering target, but it is tied to that battery and configuration. It should not be transferred to an earlier 12 or another model merely because both wear the AVATR badge. Source: updated AVATR 12 announcement.

Range figures need the same discipline. The Chinese 07 table above uses CLTC. The UAE 11 specification labels its 625km figure NEDC. These are different test procedures; neither number should be silently relabelled as WLTP or used to promise an Australian motorway distance. Source: UAE 11 battery specification.

When comparing cars, record the exact battery, wheels, test cycle and charging window beside each number. Then look for a charging test on the kind of equipment you will actually use. For a fuller explanation of the measurements, see MotorLoop's guide to EV charging speeds.

Huawei software, driver assistance and safety

AVATR's newer Chinese models make Huawei's cockpit and assisted-driving systems a major part of their sales pitch. The 06T launch announcement identifies HarmonySpace 5, while the later 07L announcement advertises Huawei ADS 5 and an 896-line lidar among its sensing hardware. The important detail is the model and release date: these announcements do not mean an older export AVATR receives identical hardware or functions. Sources: 06T launch, 07L launch.

Driver assistance can reduce workload, but it must be distinguished from a vehicle taking responsibility for the entire driving task. NHTSA's explanation of automation levels makes that distinction explicit: at Level 2, assistance can control steering and acceleration or braking together, while the driver remains responsible and must monitor the environment. That framework helps interpret marketing language without treating a sensor count as proof of autonomous capability. Source: NHTSA's automation explainer.

Before buying, ask the retailer to demonstrate which functions are enabled on the delivered car. Establish whether navigation assistance, automated parking, voice commands and phone integration work locally, and whether any require a subscription or a future update. AVATR itself notes that some advertised functions may depend on over-the-air updates and that the delivered configuration governs. Source: AVATR's product qualification.

Likewise, a claim that a vehicle was designed to meet a crash-test standard is different from a published independent test result. Check the actual model, market and rating date before accepting a five-star claim. This matters particularly when comparing an established export specification with a recently announced Chinese version.

AVATR prices in China

The following are the starting RMB prices displayed on AVATR's global website during this research, not Australian prices. They describe different model families and entry configurations, rather than six identically equipped cars.

AVATR 11RMB289,900Luxury SUV
AVATR 12RMB293,900Flagship passenger car

Source: AVATR's current model navigation and prices.

Launch announcements add useful context. The 06T launched at RMB219,900–279,900, while the updated 12 launched at RMB293,900–433,900. The 07L's official launch range was RMB229,900–279,900. These are dated official list-price ranges, not promises that a particular trim remains available at the same price indefinitely. Sources: 06T pricing, 12 pricing, 07L pricing.

Avoid recycling the lowest promotional headline. The 06T announcement attached some launch benefits to orders by 31 May 2026. The 07L announcement specified a 6 September 2026 deadline for its launch benefits, already past when this article was completed. A cash discount, finance incentive, trade-in benefit and optional-equipment credit are also different kinds of value. Ask for a written price that separates them.

Overseas pricing: local offers tell a different story

An international comparison should preserve the currency and the offer's basis. In the UAE, the official AVATR 11 configurator displayed AED245,000 for its shown build during this research. That is a regional configurator example, not a universal starting price for every version, and inclusions should be confirmed with the distributor. Source: AVATR UAE configurator.

For Hong Kong, AVATR's May 2025 launch announcement listed the 11 Premium at HK$513,800 and Max at HK$608,800. These are historical launch prices. They provide a useful illustration of how differently the same brand can be positioned overseas, but should not be described as a current September 2026 retail quotation. Source: AVATR's Hong Kong launch announcement.

Singapore illustrates another trap. The local online shop's S$1,000 amount is a pre-booking deposit. Its terms explicitly define it that way; it is not the price of the vehicle. A search result that strips away the deposit wording can make a meaningless price comparison look authoritative. Source: AVATR Singapore booking terms.

A currency conversion of the Chinese price is only a conversion, not a forecast of a foreign drive-away price. The useful comparison is the written local offer: vehicle specification, delivery charges, applicable taxes, included equipment, warranty and service support. Without those details, an apparently cheaper overseas car may represent a materially different proposition.

Distribution: China, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and beyond

AVATR uses digital ordering alongside physical sales and service channels. Its 2026 Chinese launch announcements identify the official app, website, mini-program and city stores as ordering routes. That combination allows customers to research and configure online while retaining a place to inspect the car and arrange delivery. Source: AVATR 06T ordering announcement.

At the beginning of 2026, the company reported more than 700 channel touchpoints across over 200 Chinese cities, plus over 80 overseas touchpoints across more than 40 countries and regions. These are dated company figures. A touchpoint is not necessarily a full dealership with a workshop, and a presence in a country does not establish nationwide service coverage. Source: AVATR's annual business update.

Thailand provides evidence of actual customer deliveries. AVATR's March 2026 announcement records an initial 07 handover event for more than 100 owners. It also states that cumulative Thai deliveries of the 11 had exceeded 1,000, with nine stores operating and an aim of reaching twelve during 2026. The twelve-store figure was a plan, not a completed network count. Source: AVATR's Thailand delivery update.

Singapore has an identifiable retail and servicing operation. The local website lists a showroom and service centre at 281 Alexandra Road, while its booking terms identify DPL Premium Automobiles as the contracting business. This is more useful ownership evidence than a broad statement that a brand is available in Asia. Sources: Singapore locations, local booking terms.

The UAE operates through Smart Mobility International. SMI published its exclusive partnership announcement in 2024, and the current local AVATR site provides vehicle configuration, enquiries and ownership services. This distributor model makes the local operator a significant part of the purchase decision: its parts arrangements, repair capacity and communication affect the customer experience. Sources: SMI partnership, AVATR UAE.

AVATR's own overseas page dates the start of its international expansion to 2024 and even identifies a market-specific 190kW 11 motor for Nepal and Sri Lanka. That small specification note demonstrates why global availability should never be interpreted as one uniform international car.

What is confirmed for Australia?

Australian expansion is progressing, but plans and retail availability are separate milestones. In August 2026, carsales reported recruitment for an AVATR/Changan sales and service network, following an earlier statement from Changan executive Zhao Fei that the company planned to bring AVATR here. The report explicitly said Australian models, specifications, prices and launch timing had not yet been announced. Source: carsales' Australian launch report.

This research did not establish a subsequently published official Australian price list. Accordingly, there is no defensible Australian drive-away price to put beside the Chinese figures in this article. Overseas right-hand-drive vehicles and local testing are useful signs of preparation, but neither establishes a customer delivery date or the equipment of an Australian production car.

For an Australian buyer, the decisive next documents are the local model specification, warranty terms, dealer and service locations, and a written delivery offer. Someone buying now can compare vehicles already supported locally; someone willing to wait can follow those concrete milestones without treating an anticipated launch as a completed one.

Competitive advantages: where AVATR has a credible case

AVATR's strongest potential advantage is the combination of technologies and design choices. A coordinated battery, drive-system and cockpit programme can deliver a distinctive product without requiring the brand to develop each component alone. The partnership structure is therefore commercially significant, even though component suppliers and impressive specifications do not prove overall superiority.

Its second advantage is choice within an identifiable design language. Different buyers can look at a saloon, a family SUV or a more versatile passenger car without abandoning the brand. Where offered, BEV and REEV versions also address different charging circumstances. This broadens AVATR's opportunity beyond a customer who already knows that a pure-electric car fits their life.

Its third advantage is the premium experience offered at its Chinese price points. Equipment such as large displays, comfort seating and sophisticated assistance systems gives the buyer something tangible to assess. The competitive question is how much of that specification survives into a local export model and at what price. A value argument established in China needs to be demonstrated again in each destination market.

The relevant rivals test different parts of that proposition:

Rival or benchmarkWhat a buyer should compare
Tesla Model YEveryday electric ownership, route planning and charging convenience
Zeekr 7XPremium SUV equipment, high-voltage charging and local support
NIO ET5 and related modelsCabin technology, premium positioning and the energy-service model in supported markets
An established premium car on the buyer's shortlistSeating comfort, refinement, service access and the full ownership offer

Tesla's official charging page describes integration between navigation, charger availability, battery preparation and payment. That is a useful benchmark for an EV's end-to-end convenience. An AVATR could be preferable for its interior while still needing to demonstrate an equally suitable charging experience for a particular owner. Source: Tesla Supercharging.

Zeekr's Australian 7X page advertises an 800V electrical system, making clear that high-voltage charging technology is not exclusive to AVATR. Buyers should compare actual charging windows and local variants before declaring a winner. Source: Zeekr 7X Australia.

NIO's ET5 page highlights battery swapping as well as charging, illustrating a different approach to replenishing energy. That comparison is relevant only where the supporting services exist. A compelling feature in China cannot be assumed to benefit an owner in another country. Source: NIO ET5.

Ownership costs and questions worth resolving

Purchase price is only the beginning of a premium-car comparison. Obtain insurance quotations, check tyre replacement costs for the specified wheel size, and ask for the service schedule. Establish who repairs collision damage, who calibrates assistance-system sensors and how replacement parts are supplied. These are questions to resolve, rather than evidence that AVATR necessarily performs poorly in any of those areas.

Warranty terms are regional. The UAE ownership page advertises a five-year unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty, an eight-year unlimited-mileage battery warranty subject to conditions, and three years or 60,000km of free maintenance. Those terms should not be transferred to Singapore, China or a future Australian model. Ask for the actual warranty booklet, including battery-capacity conditions and transferability. Source: AVATR UAE ownership package.

For a used AVATR, establish the original sales market and the support available to the next owner. Check whether the app account can be transferred, whether paid functions remain active, and whether service and battery records accompany the car. MotorLoop's used electric-car checklist provides a broader framework for inspecting the purchase.

AVATR has a substantial technology story and a distinctive product identity. Its lasting competitive position will depend on turning those strengths into a consistent ownership experience across markets. For a buyer, the strongest evidence remains concrete: the exact vehicle, its demonstrated functions, the local service organisation and the written price.

FAQs

Is AVATR owned by Huawei?

Huawei is described as a strategic technology partner. AVATR identifies Changan and CATL as its two largest shareholders. AVATR also announced an investment in Huawei's Yinwang subsidiary, which is a different ownership relationship. Source: AVATR company profile.

Are AVATR cars fully electric?

Some are battery-electric; others use range-extension technology with a petrol generator. Check the exact model and trim rather than relying on the brand's general electric-vehicle description. Source: AVATR range-extension technology.

How much does an AVATR cost in Australia?

This research did not verify an official Australian price list as at 9 September 2026. Chinese RMB prices and overseas distributor offers are not Australian drive-away quotations. Source: Australian launch status.

Does a ten-minute charging claim mean a full charge?
