The connection uses an open standard called MCP (Model Context Protocol). It is not a MotorLoop invention — it is a published specification that a number of assistant apps support, and you do not need to understand it to use it. An assistant is summarising a page, not standing behind it. Prices, kilometres and availability change, and a reply can be built on a result fetched minutes earlier. Before you pay a deposit, drive to an inspection or make an offer, open the listing page itself and check the details there.

What is MCP and what does it have to do with MotorLoop?
It is an open standard for letting an AI assistant talk to an outside service in a structured way, rather than guessing from whatever it happened to read elsewhere on the internet. MotorLoop publishes an MCP endpoint, so an assistant that supports the standard can search this site's live listings and read our guides directly. The endpoint address and the setup instructions are on the AI assistant page.
Do I need a MotorLoop account for my assistant to search cars?
No. Searching listings, reading a listing in full, checking which filters a storefront offers and reading our guides work without an account and without any credential, because that is the same public information you would see by browsing the site. An account comes into it when you want an assistant to touch your own listings. Drafts and unpublished listings are not visible to an assistant connected this way.
What can an AI assistant actually do with MotorLoop?
Without signing in, it can search listings using the same filters the site uses — make, model, price, kilometres, body type, fuel type and so on — read one listing in detail, check what filter values a storefront actually uses, read approved comments and ratings, and read MotorLoop's guides. Signed in as a seller, it can list your own listings including drafts, create one, update it, reorder, relabel or remove photos already on a listing, and change a listing's status when you ask. Dealers can also import a batch of stock in one go, and that import checks every row before it writes anything, so one bad value stops the whole batch rather than half-loading it. It cannot upload photo files, because the amount of data involved is beyond what an assistant can send in a message. Where both MotorLoop and the storefront have the setting switched on, an assistant can instead pass web addresses for photos and the site downloads them.
How do I let an assistant manage my own listings?
Ask it to. An assistant that supports signing in sends you to a MotorLoop page to approve the connection, with nothing for you to copy or paste. For an assistant that cannot do that, create a personal access token in your MotorLoop profile with the scope that covers managing your listings, then paste it into the assistant's configuration — it is shown once at creation and cannot be retrieved later. One thing worth knowing before you start: an update replaces a listing's core details rather than merging them, so ask the assistant to read the listing first when you only want to change one field such as the price. Can a token do more than my own account can do?
No. A token starts from the permissions your account already holds, and the scope you choose removes from that set rather than adding to it, so a scope string can never grant something your account lacks. If you cannot do something on the website, a token cannot do it either. The same applies to an assistant you approve through the sign-in flow. This also means a token gives an assistant access to your own listings, not to anyone else's.
Can an assistant publish or delete a listing on its own?
Anything an assistant creates or imports lands as a draft, whatever the wording of your request, so a misread instruction produces something for you to review rather than a live advertisement. Publishing is a separate step you have to ask for. MotorLoop marks the tools that change something as not read-only, which is the signal an assistant app uses to check with you before it acts — though whether it actually shows you a prompt is that app's behaviour rather than something MotorLoop controls. Deleting a listing through an assistant is switched off unless a storefront has deliberately turned it on; archiving is offered instead, and an archived listing can be brought back.
What information does MotorLoop share with an AI assistant?
The listing information that is already public: the title, price, kilometres, description, attributes, photo addresses, tags and the seller's public @handle. Email addresses and phone numbers are not part of what an assistant receives, so a buyer still makes contact through the listing page in the usual way. If you connect your own account, the assistant additionally sees your own listings, drafts included, which is the point of connecting it. It does not see other people's drafts or accounts.
How do I disconnect an assistant or revoke a token?
Both live on your MotorLoop profile, on two separate tabs. Approved assistants sit under Connected apps, where disconnecting one stops it straight away; tokens sit under API tokens, where a revoked token stops working on the next request. Changing your password, resetting it or closing your account clears both automatically, so a temporary compromise cannot quietly become lasting access. If you have lost a token, create a new one and revoke the old, since a token cannot be read back after it is created.
Which AI assistants can connect to MotorLoop?
Any assistant application that acts as an MCP client. Several of the widely used chat assistants and coding tools supported MCP as at mid-2026, and support changes quickly, so check your own app's documentation for MCP or connector support rather than relying on a general description here. MotorLoop does not recommend one assistant over another. Connecting one is not a paid feature, and listing a car on MotorLoop is free.
Can a storefront turn AI assistant access off?
Yes. Each storefront controls whether assistants may read its listings, and that setting is separate from whether it allows AI training crawlers — a seller can welcome an assistant that is shopping on a real person's behalf while still keeping bulk crawlers away. A private storefront turns assistants away the same way it asks an ordinary visitor to sign in, though its own seller can still reach their listings with their own credential. If an assistant reports that a storefront is unavailable, that is usually the setting rather than a fault.
